Red Stag generally live in the protection of the bush or woods. There are two main regions in Argentina to hunt Red Stag, Pategonia and La Pampa. Hunting of Red Stag is primarily done through chasing or stalking. Setting up by a watering hole in the early morning is one great way to hunt Red Stag. Hunters will want to set up in areas where stag will be before sunrise in order to avoid any unnecessary movement that may be noticed by the deer. Another effective method of hunting is hunting during the evening and late night hours, as Stag are nocturnal creatures and are often found grazing at night.

The hunting season for Red Stag is from March to July. This is a very short hunting season compared to most large game species. The reason for the shorter hunting season is that the best time to hunt Red Stag is during their roar. The roar is when Stag come into heat and the males roar to the females to draw them closer.
